Theoretically, taking garden cress with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Garden cress has shown hypotensive effects in animal research and increases levels and effects of the antihypertensive medications amlodipine and losartan. This has not been shown in humans.

Here's the gist: amlodipine (sold as Katerzia) already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Garden cress, at least in animal studies, seems to do two things in the same direction. It can nudge blood pressure down on its own, and it may raise the levels of amlodipine in the body. Stack those together and, in theory, your pressure could dip lower than intended.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, get a headache, feel unusually tired, or notice more ankle swelling. I want to be clear though: this has only been seen in lab and animal research, not in people, so it's far from certain. Cress in normal food amounts is unlikely to be a problem. Before using concentrated cress seed supplements, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, taking garden cress seeds with amlodipine might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research indicates that giving garden cress seeds with amlodipine increases maximum concentrations of amlodipine by 83%. Blood pressure was also reduced when compared with amlodipine alone. However, the area under the curve was not significantly affected.

Here's the situation with garden cress seeds and your amlodipine (Katerzia). Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes your blood vessels to lower blood pressure, and it works as-is (it is not a prodrug that needs activating). In animal studies, garden cress seeds raised the peak level of amlodipine in the blood by about 83% and lowered blood pressure more than amlodipine alone. So the concern is your blood pressure dropping too low.

What might that feel like? Dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, headache, swollen ankles, or feeling unusually tired. I'll be honest, this is theoretical and based only on animal data, and normal culinary amounts of cress are unlikely to matter. Concentrated seed supplements are the bigger question, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting them.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Katerzia

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
