Theoretically, garden cress seed may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Animal research suggests that garden cress seed extract can increase bleeding time when used in combination with the antiplatelet agent clopidogrel. This has not been shown in humans and it is unclear if garden cress seed itself has anticoagulant or antiplatelet effects.

Clopidogrel (Plavix) is a blood thinner that keeps your platelets from clumping together, which lowers your risk of clots after a stent, heart attack, or stroke. The concern here is that concentrated garden cress seed might add to that blood-thinning effect, so the two together could nudge up your chance of bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slow to stop.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is: it comes from animal research only, where cress seed extract lengthened bleeding time alongside clopidogrel. We haven't seen it play out in people, and it's not even clear cress itself thins the blood. Eating cress as a food is very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about seed supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, taking garden cress seed with clopidogrel might prolong bleeding.
Animal research shows that taking garden cress seed daily for 2 weeks prior to a single dose of clopidogrel does not affect the pharmacokinetics of clopidogrel. However, bleeding time was increased by 7%. This has not been shown in humans and the mechanism of action is unclear.

Clopidogrel (Plavix) is a blood thinner that keeps platelets from clumping, which lowers your risk of clots after a stent, heart attack, or stroke. The concern here is fairly gentle: in animal studies, garden cress seed taken for two weeks didn't change how much clopidogrel got into the body, but it did stretch out bleeding time by about 7 percent. In plain terms, the two together might add up to a slightly stronger blood-thinning effect.

This is only theoretical and based on animal research, not people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a little garden cress in a salad. With concentrated seed supplements, just watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slow to stop, and run it by your pharmacist or doctor before starting them.

What Is Clopidogrel Used For?

Clopidogrel tablets are used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) — including unstable angina and non-ST-elevation or ST-elevation heart attacks — and in people with a history of recent heart attack, recent stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease. For ACS, it is typically given alongside aspirin.

It works by preventing platelets (blood cells that trigger clotting) from clumping together, which helps keep arteries open and lowers the chance of a dangerous clot forming.
