Here's the simple version: the phenobarbital part of Soniphen is a barbiturate, which already does a strong job of slowing down your brain and body. German chamomile has its own mild calming, sleepy effect. When you put the two together, those effects can stack up. The worry isn't a chemical reaction in your liver here, it's just two sedatives pulling in the same direction.

In real life, that could mean feeling extra drowsy, dizzy, foggy, or slow to react. I'll be honest with you: this concern is mostly theoretical and based on lab work, not solid human studies, and a single cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to do much. Still, with a medicine as powerful as phenobarbital, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before making it a daily habit.
