Here's the big concern with this combination: phenobarbital is a barbiturate, which is a powerful brain and nervous system depressant in its own right. GHB is also a strong sedative that calms and slows nerve activity. Stack the two together and their slowing effects pile up, which can lead to heavy drowsiness, confusion, very slow or shallow breathing, dangerously low blood pressure, and in the worst cases deep unconsciousness or stopped breathing.

This isn't a subtle, theoretical worry. Even though the evidence is mostly anecdotal, both drugs independently can suppress breathing, so combining them is genuinely risky. GHB outside of tightly supervised medical use is dangerous on its own. Please don't pair these without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) is a powerful central nervous system depressant that is NOT a safe dietary supplement. In the U.S. it is a controlled substance, and only a tightly regulated prescription form (sodium oxybate) is legal for narcolepsy. Non-prescription GHB can cause coma, breathing failure, and death, and it is also a known 'date-rape' drug — it should not be taken outside of medical supervision.
