Betamethasone Dipropionate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Ginkgo interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ginkgo with P-glycoprotein substrates might increase the levels and adverse effects of these substrates.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that using ginkgo leaf extract 120 mg orally three times daily for 14 days can increase levels of the P-glycoprotein substrate, talinolol, by 36% in healthy male individuals. However, single doses of ginkgo do not have the same effect.

Here's the good news on this one. The interaction we have on file is about ginkgo possibly raising blood levels of certain medicines that travel through a transporter called P-glycoprotein. But your betamethasone dipropionate (Sernivo) is a topical product, meaning a cream, ointment, lotion, or spray you put right on the skin. Very little of it gets into your bloodstream, so a transporter interaction like this isn't really expected to matter for you.

On top of that, the underlying evidence is mostly theoretical and based on a small study using a different drug taken by mouth. So I wouldn't lose sleep over combining the two. As always, if you ever switch to an oral or injected steroid, or you have questions, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Betamethasone Topical Used For?

Brand name: Sernivo

Betamethasone topical is used to relieve the redness, swelling, and itching of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses (skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment). Sernivo Spray is specifically approved for plaque psoriasis of the body. Diprolene (topical cream, ointment, or gel) is indicated for inflammatory and itchy skin conditions in patients 13 years of age and older.

This medication is for use on the skin only. It is not approved for use on the face, groin, or underarms, and it is not for use in the eyes, mouth, or vagina.
