Here's the gist with goldenseal and your Pristiq. Goldenseal is known to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the helpers your body uses to clear desvenlafaxine. When that helper gets blocked, the medication can hang around a little longer and build up. Desvenlafaxine is the active drug itself (not a prodrug that needs activating), so more of it in your system usually means stronger effects.

In real life, that could show up as more nausea, dizziness, headache, sweating, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, or a faster heartbeat. The evidence here is moderate, not alarming, but it's worth a quick chat. Please don't change anything on your own. Just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Desvenlafaxine extended-release tablets — sold under brand names including Pristiq, Desvenlafaxine ER, Desvenlafaxine Succinate, and others — are approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults.

This medication is not approved for use in children or adolescents. Its effectiveness was studied in clinical trials of adult outpatients who met standard diagnostic criteria for MDD.
