Doxazosin Mesylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Goldenseal interacts with.

Theoretically, goldenseal might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Goldenseal contains berberine. Animal research shows that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, an analysis of clinical research shows that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. However, this effect has not been reported with goldenseal.

Here's the gist with goldenseal and your doxazosin (Cardura). Doxazosin already lowers blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Goldenseal contains berberine, which in some studies seems to nudge blood pressure down on its own. So the worry is that the two together could push your blood pressure a little lower than expected.

In real life, that might show up as feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly. Doxazosin is already known for this kind of "first-dose" drop, so be aware. To be clear, this concern is theoretical, based on how these work rather than reports of people actually having trouble. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goldenseal, and let them know if you notice any dizziness.

What Is Doxazosin Used For?

Brand name: Cardura

Doxazosin tablets (Cardura, Doxazosin, Doxazosin mesylate) are approved to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — an enlarged prostate that causes urinary problems — and to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack. Doxazosin tablets may be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Cardura XL (the extended-release tablet) is approved only for BPH symptoms. Cardura XL is not approved for high blood pressure.
