Here's the gist with goldenseal and your sodium valproate (Epilim). Valproate already tends to make some people feel drowsy, foggy, or a little dizzy. Goldenseal contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine showed mild sedative effects. The worry is that stacking the two could add up to extra sleepiness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical and comes from lab and animal work, not from people, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, it's an easy one to watch. If you ever notice unusual grogginess or trouble staying alert, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything, especially since valproate is a medication where steady, careful dosing matters.
