Here's the simple version: hydrocodone is a strong opioid pain medicine that already slows down your brain and breathing. Gotu kola may have its own mild calming effect, possibly by acting on GABA receptors in the brain (the same calming system many sedatives use). Put the two together and, in theory, the sleepiness could stack up. That might mean feeling extra drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or in a worst case, breathing that slows too much.

I want to be honest about how strong this evidence is. It's based on lab and theory work, not real patient reports, so we can't say it definitely happens. Still, with a powerful opioid I'd rather you play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your hydrocodone on your own.
