Theoretically, taking gotu kola with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects.
There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.

Here's the concern with pairing gotu kola and trabectedin (Yondelis). Trabectedin is a chemotherapy drug that's already known to be hard on the liver, and your care team watches your liver enzymes closely while you're on it. Gotu kola has its own rare reports of liver trouble. The worry is simply that two things that can stress the liver, taken together, might add up and make liver injury more likely.

To be honest, this is a theoretical caution built on only a handful of case reports, so it's not a proven, strong interaction. Still, with a drug as serious as trabectedin, I'd keep it simple and avoid extra liver risks. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding gotu kola.

What Is Trabectedin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Yondelis

Yondelis (trabectedin injection) is used to treat adults with liposarcoma or leiomyosarcoma — two types of soft tissue sarcoma (cancer of connective tissue) — when the cancer cannot be removed by surgery (unresectable) or has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). It is indicated for patients who have already received a prior treatment regimen containing an anthracycline (a type of chemotherapy).
