Theoretically, taking Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract with dextromethorphan might increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects, such as serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders such as Call-Fleming syndrome.
Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract contains 5-HTP. Taking 5-HTP with dextromethorphan increases the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.

Here's the thing to know about this combo: your cough and cold product contains dextromethorphan, which gently nudges serotonin levels in the brain. Griffonia seed extract supplies 5-HTP, a direct building block of serotonin. Stacking the two means more serotonin activity, and in theory that raises the odds of too much, what we call serotonin syndrome (think agitation, sweating, shivering, a racing heart, muscle twitching, or confusion).

I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than lots of real-world reports, so don't panic if you've taken them together. Still, I'd rather you not gamble on it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you're also on an antidepressant.
