Theoretically, taking Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract with CNS depressants might increase the risk of additive CNS depression.
Griffonia simplicifolia seed extract contains 5-HTP. In clinical trials, 5-HTP has been associated with drowsiness and somnolence.

Here's the gist of it. Felbamate works in the brain to calm down the abnormal electrical activity that causes seizures, and one of its known side effects is making you feel sleepy or tired. Griffonia seed extract supplies 5-HTP, which in studies has also been linked to drowsiness. So the concern is simple addition: stacking two things that can make you sleepy may leave you more groggy, foggy, or fatigued than usual.

This is a theoretical caution based on how each one acts, not on strong human studies of the two together, so I don't want to alarm you. Felbamate isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about changing its blood levels, just overlapping sedation. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't stop or change your seizure medicine on your own.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
