Here's the simple version. Eszopiclone (Lunesta) already calms brain activity to help you sleep, so it can leave you drowsy, foggy, or unsteady, especially the next morning. Guarumo, taken as a leaf tea or supplement, may have its own mild calming effect on the nervous system. Put the two together and those sedating effects could stack up, potentially making you sleepier, dizzier, or more wobbly on your feet than expected.

I'll be honest with you though: this concern comes only from animal research, not from people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Guarumo doesn't activate Lunesta, so it's not a prodrug situation. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. What Is Eszopiclone Used For?

Brand name: Lunesta

Eszopiclone tablets — sold under the brand name Lunesta and as generics — are indicated for the treatment of insomnia. In clinical studies, eszopiclone helped people fall asleep more quickly (reduced sleep latency) and stay asleep through the night (improved sleep maintenance).

Clinical trials supporting its effectiveness lasted up to 6 months in adults and up to 2 weeks in elderly patients. Lunesta and eszopiclone generics are approved for this same indication across the available tablet formulations.
