Guarumo + Methadone
Methadone brand name: Dolophine.
Guarumo has a moderate interaction with Methadone. In an animal study, an aqueous extract of guarumo depressed the central nervous system, inducing significant motor incoordination and muscle relaxant activity.

CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Methadone
Methadone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Guarumo interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with guarumo and methadone: methadone is already a strong opioid that slows down your brain and body. In an animal study, a water-based guarumo extract had its own calming, muscle-relaxing effect on the nervous system. So the worry is that the two together could add up and push the sedation further than you'd expect.
In real life, that might look like extra drowsiness, feeling foggy or dizzy, or slowed, shallow breathing, which is the most serious risk with methadone. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on animal data, not solid human studies. Still, since methadone leaves little room for error, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two rather than changing anything on your own.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. “If you take methadone, choose your supplements with genuine care. Of the 223 ingredients on this page, most either add to methadone's sedating effect or change how fast your body clears it, which can push its blood level up or down.”

About Guarumo
What is Guarumo?
- Type 2 diabetes / blood sugar support
- High blood pressure
- Cough, asthma, and bronchitis
- Heart failure symptoms
- Liver and rheumatic complaints
Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic condition or take medication.
About Methadone
What Is Methadone Used For?
Brand name: Dolophine
Methadone treats two main problems. Some products are used for severe, persistent pain that needs daily, around-the-clock opioid treatment when other options are not adequate. Some products are used for opioid addiction (heroin or other morphine-like drugs), as detoxification or as maintenance treatment along with social and medical services.
Not every product is approved for every use. Methadone tablets, oral solution and oral concentrate (Intensol) list both pain and opioid addiction. Diskets, Methadose Dispersible tablets and the Methadose and Methadone Hydrocloride oral concentrates are labeled only for opioid addiction. Methadone injection is for severe pain, and for short-term treatment of opioid dependence in people who cannot take medicine by mouth, such as hospitalized patients. It is not approved for outpatient opioid dependence treatment. Methadone is not meant to be used as an as-needed pain reliever.
