Here's the gist of this one. In an animal study, a water-based guarumo extract had a calming, sedative-like effect on the brain, even causing wobbly movement and muscle relaxation. The thinking is that guarumo could add to the drowsiness of medicines that already slow the brain down. Ingrezza (valbenazine) can make some people feel sleepy or tired, so stacking guarumo on top might leave you feeling more drowsy than usual.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based only on an animal study, not on people taking these two together, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, if you notice extra sleepiness, dizziness, or trouble staying alert, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

Guarumo (Cecropia obtusifolia) is a tropical tree used in Latin American traditional medicine, most often as a leaf tea for diabetes and high blood pressure. Some early laboratory and small human studies suggest it may modestly affect blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
