Alectinib Hydrochloride falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the concern with pairing hemp agrimony and alectinib (Alecensa). This isn't about one speeding up or slowing down the other. Instead, both can be hard on your liver. Alectinib already carries a known risk of liver problems, and people taking it get regular blood tests to watch their liver enzymes for exactly that reason. Hemp agrimony can contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids, natural compounds that may also injure the liver.

Stacking two liver stressors could add up, possibly raising your chance of warning signs like fatigue, nausea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine. I'll be honest: this is a theoretical caution based on how these things work, not proven cases. Still, with a cancer drug this important, I'd skip the hemp agrimony and check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Alectinib Used For?

Brand name: Alecensa

Alecensa (alectinib) is used in adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have a specific genetic change called ALK-positive (anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive), confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Alecensa is used in two situations: as adjuvant treatment — meaning after surgical removal of the tumor — in patients whose tumors were at least 4 cm or had spread to nearby lymph nodes; and as treatment for metastatic NSCLC, meaning cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
