Glyburide, Metformin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Hemp Agrimony interacts with.

Hemp agrimony contains hepatotoxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). Theoretically, using hemp agrimony with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on the liver. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol and others), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), erythromycin (Erythrocin, Ilosone, others), phenytoin (Dilantin), lovastatin (Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simvastatin (Zocor), and many others.

Here's the simple version. Hemp agrimony can contain natural compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which are known to be hard on the liver. This isn't about hemp agrimony changing your blood sugar or how Glucovance (glyburide and metformin) works. Instead, the worry is about adding two things that can each stress the liver and getting a bigger combined burden.

This is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves, not on strong human studies, so I don't want to scare you. Still, with metformin there's a separate liver consideration: if the liver becomes unhealthy, that can raise the rare risk of a serious problem called lactic acidosis. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Because of the liver concern, I'd skip internal hemp agrimony and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
