ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Carbetapentane, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine
Carbetapentane, Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Henbane interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know about pairing henbane with your Ricotuss product. That cough and cold combo already contains chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine with built-in anticholinergic activity, meaning it blocks the messenger acetylcholine. Henbane is loaded with the very same kind of compounds (hyoscyamine, scopolamine, atropine), so putting them together basically stacks two drying agents on top of each other.
When that happens, you can expect more of the bothersome effects you'd already get from this medicine: a very dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, trouble emptying your bladder, a racing heart, confusion, and overheating. This is based on how these chemicals behave rather than firm studies, but henbane is genuinely poisonous, so I'd steer clear of it entirely. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Henbane
What is Henbane?
- Pain relief
- Muscle spasms and cramps
- Sleep and sedation
- Asthma and breathing problems (traditional)
- Toothache (traditional)
Henbane is a highly poisonous plant containing potent alkaloids like hyoscyamine and scopolamine, and even small amounts can cause serious or deadly poisoning. While its compounds have real medical uses, these belong in carefully controlled prescription drugs, not in self-made or self-dosed herbal products. We strongly advise against using henbane as a supplement.
