Progesterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for progesterone. Your body clears this hormone partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, horny goat weed seems to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, less progesterone would get broken down, so a bit more could linger in your system. That might mean more of progesterone's usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, breast tenderness, bloating, or mood shifts.

The honest part: this is only lab evidence so far, and it has not been shown to happen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since horny goat weed itself isn't well studied, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, especially if you notice any new symptoms.

About Progesterone

What Is Progesterone Used For?

Brand name: Milprosa

Progesterone capsules (including Prometrium) are used to prevent endometrial hyperplasia (abnormal thickening of the uterine lining) in postmenopausal women with a uterus who are taking estrogen, and to treat secondary amenorrhea (missed periods not caused by pregnancy).

Progesterone injection is indicated for amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding caused by a hormonal imbalance. Crinone vaginal gel is used as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) for progesterone supplementation or replacement, and Crinone 4% is also indicated for secondary amenorrhea. Vaginal inserts — including Endometrin and other progesterone vaginal insert products — are used to support embryo implantation and early pregnancy as part of an ART treatment program for infertile women.
