These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with whole categories of medication. Propranolol Hydrochloride falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Humann Superbeets Heart Chews in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).
Antihypertensive Drugs
1 of 2Why this applies to Propranolol Hydrochloride
Propranolol Hydrochloride falls under Antihypertensive Drugs — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Propranolol works partly by relaxing blood vessels, and the beetroot in these chews can do a little of the same thing thanks to its nitrates. Stack the two together and you might nudge blood pressure down a touch more than the medicine alone. So the main thing to watch for is feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or a bit faint, especially when standing up quickly.
The good news is that this overlap is rated minor, and studies show the blood pressure effect from beets is usually small and short-lived. One note worth flagging: Hemangeol (propranolol oral solution) is most often prescribed for infants with hemangiomas, and a beet supplement isn't something you'd give a baby. If this is for an adult on propranolol, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the chews.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
2 of 2Propranolol Hydrochloride also falls under Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for propranolol. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear this medicine. The grape seed extract in SuperBeets Heart Chews has shown, in lab dish studies only, that it might slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more propranolol build up, which for an active medicine like this means slightly stronger effects, things like a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, tiredness, or cool hands and feet.
The honest takeaway: this is a minor, unproven concern. It has never actually been reported in real people, and the beets themselves aren't the issue. Still, since propranolol affects heart rate and pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
