Selpercatinib falls under Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates — the group Humann Superbeets Heart Chews interacts with.

Each serving of HumanN SuperBeets includes 150mg of grape seed extract (2 chews). Laboratory studies suggest that grape seed extract might have inhibitory effects on the CYP3A4 metabolizing enzyme. If this enzyme is inhibited, drugs metabolized by it may undergo slower metabolism, potentially leading to (in many cases) higher-than-normal drug levels. Elevated drug levels can increase the risk of experiencing side effects. However, it's important to point out that there is no documented or reported instance of this specific interaction occurring in human studies.

Here's the situation with these beet chews and your Selpercatinib (Retevmo). The chews contain grape seed extract, and in lab dishes that extract has shown a mild ability to slow down CYP3A4, one of the main liver enzymes that clears selpercatinib from your body. In theory, if that enzyme works slower, levels of your medicine could creep up a bit, which might mean more of its usual side effects like high blood pressure, swelling, dry mouth, diarrhea, or changes on your liver and heart (QT) tests.

That said, this is based only on test-tube data, and there is no real-world report of it happening in people. It's rated minor and unlikely. Still, because selpercatinib is a serious cancer drug, please run any new supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist before starting it.

What Is Selpercatinib Used For?

Brand name: Retevmo

Selpercatinib treats cancers driven by changes in the RET gene — either a gene fusion (where RET joins abnormally with another gene) or a RET mutation (a change in the gene itself). Your doctor will confirm one of these changes with an FDA-approved test before prescribing it.

It is approved for adults with RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer; adults and children 2 and older with RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer or RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer; and adults and children 2 and older with other advanced solid tumors that have a RET gene fusion and have not responded to prior treatment.
