Selpercatinib falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Cesium interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cesium concomitantly with other drugs that prolong the QT interval may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and death.
Taking cesium can prolong the QT interval on electrocardiogram (ECG). In many cases, cesium-induced QT prolongation has led to serious adverse effects, including torsades de pointes, cardiac arrest, and death.

Here's the concern with pairing cesium and selpercatinib (Retevmo). This isn't about one changing the other's blood levels. Instead, both can affect the heart's electrical timing, what we call the QT interval on an EKG. Selpercatinib is already known to lengthen the QT interval, and cesium can do the same thing on its own.

When two QT-prolonging effects stack up, the worry is a dangerous heart rhythm called torsades de pointes, which can cause fainting, cardiac arrest, or even death. Honestly, cesium is risky by itself and has no proven cancer benefit, so it shouldn't be used at all, especially with a medicine like selpercatinib. Please talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any supplement.

What Is Selpercatinib Used For?

Brand name: Retevmo

Selpercatinib treats cancers driven by changes in the RET gene — either a gene fusion (where RET joins abnormally with another gene) or a RET mutation (a change in the gene itself). Your doctor will confirm one of these changes with an FDA-approved test before prescribing it.

It is approved for adults with RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer; adults and children 2 and older with RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer or RET fusion-positive thyroid cancer; and adults and children 2 and older with other advanced solid tumors that have a RET gene fusion and have not responded to prior treatment.
