Cesium and Hydrocortisone

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

CORTICOSTEROIDS

Why this applies to Hydrocortisone

Hydrocortisone falls under CORTICOSTEROIDS — the group Cesium interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cesium concomitantly with other drugs that deplete potassium, such as corticosteroids, may increase the risk of hypokalemia.
Cesium supplements have been associated with hypokalemia in many case reports.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

First things first: cesium chloride isn't something I'd recommend at all. It hasn't been shown to treat cancer or any disease, and it can trigger serious, sometimes fatal heart rhythm problems on its own. So my real advice here is to steer clear of it entirely.

That said, here's the specific concern with hydrocortisone. Steroids like this can lower your body's potassium over time, and cesium has been linked to low potassium (hypokalemia) in a number of case reports. Put them together and you could nudge potassium even lower. Low potassium can cause muscle weakness, cramps, fatigue, and most worrying, irregular heartbeats. This is a theoretical interaction based mostly on anecdotal reports, but since low potassium plus heart rhythm risk is a real danger, please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using cesium.

About Cesium

What is Cesium?

  • Marketed as an alternative cancer treatment ('high pH therapy')
  • Claimed to alter tumor pH
  • General 'alkaline' health claims

Cesium chloride is a mineral salt sold as an alternative cancer therapy ('high pH therapy'), but there is no reliable scientific evidence that it treats cancer or any other disease. It can cause dangerous heart rhythm problems and even death, so it should not be used. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any supplement, and never use cesium in place of proven medical care.
