Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Clinafloxacin
Clinafloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Iron interacts with.
Advise patients to separate quinolone antibiotics and iron doses by at least 2 hours. Iron decreases the absorption of quinolones due to formation of insoluble complexes in the gastrointestinal tract.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: iron and Clinafloxacin don't get along in your stomach. When the two meet, the iron grabs onto the antibiotic and forms a clump that your gut can't absorb well. The result is that less of your Clinafloxacin actually makes it into your bloodstream, which means it may not knock out your infection the way it should.
This isn't about side effects, it's about the antibiotic working at full strength. The fix is easy: space them apart by at least 2 hours so each one has time to absorb. This concern is based on how iron and quinolones behave chemically rather than big studies, but it's well understood and worth respecting. Check with your pharmacist or doctor on the best timing for your schedule.

By severity: 4 major · 62 moderate · 21 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Clinafloxacin page
“If you have been prescribed clinafloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic, start with the four interactions rated major, because they all do the same thing: apple, grapefruit, and orange juice, along with activated charcoal, can sharply cut how much of the drug you absorb, and an antibiotic that never reaches your bloodstream cannot clear the…”

About Iron
What is Iron?
- Iron-deficiency anemia
- Low iron stores during pregnancy
- Fatigue from iron deficiency
- Heavy menstrual blood loss
- Restless legs syndrome (with low iron)
Iron is an essential mineral your body needs to make hemoglobin and carry oxygen in the blood. Supplements are mainly useful for treating or preventing iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia, ideally after a blood test confirms you are low. Because too much iron can be harmful, take it only when needed and under the guidance of a pharmacist or doctor.
