Omadacycline (IV) falls under TETRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Iron interacts with.

Iron might decrease levels of tetracycline antibiotics by reducing their absorption.
Advise patients to take iron at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after tetracycline antibiotics. Concomitant use can decrease absorption of tetracycline antibiotics from the gastrointestinal tract by 50% to 90%.

Here's some good news about your situation. Iron and oral tetracyclines normally bind together in the gut, which can block a lot of the antibiotic from getting absorbed. But you're asking about the IV (intravenous) form of omadacycline, which goes straight into your bloodstream and skips the stomach and intestines entirely. That means a swallowed iron supplement isn't sitting next to the drug in your gut to grab onto it.

So with the IV version specifically, an iron pill is very unlikely to weaken your antibiotic the way it would with an oral dose. This concern is mostly theoretical for injections anyway. If you ever switch to oral omadacycline tablets, the spacing rule matters a lot more, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

What Is Omadacycline Injection Used For?

Brand name: Nuzyra

Nuzyra (omadacycline) injection is used in adults to treat two types of serious bacterial infections: community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) — a lung infection picked up outside of a hospital — and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), which include serious skin infections such as those caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Nuzyra works only against bacterial infections. It is not effective against viral illnesses like the flu or common cold. Your doctor will prescribe it only when a bacterial infection is confirmed or strongly suspected, to help prevent the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
