Lomefloxacin brand name: Maxaquin.
Iron has a moderate interaction with Lomefloxacin. Iron might decrease levels of quinolone antibiotics by reducing their absorption.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Lomefloxacin
Lomefloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Iron interacts with.
Advise patients to separate quinolone antibiotics and iron doses by at least 2 hours. Iron decreases the absorption of quinolones due to formation of insoluble complexes in the gastrointestinal tract.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the practical concern: when iron and Lomefloxacin meet in your stomach, the iron can bind to the antibiotic and form a clump your body can't absorb well. The result is that less of the medicine actually gets into your bloodstream, which means it may not fight your infection as effectively. So this is about your antibiotic working weaker, not stronger.
The good news is this is easy to manage. Spacing your doses apart, usually by at least 2 hours, lets the antibiotic absorb properly. This is a well-understood, predictable interaction with quinolones, though it's based mostly on how these drugs behave chemically. Before changing anything, check with your pharmacist or doctor on the best timing for you.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

About Iron
What is Iron?
- Iron-deficiency anemia
- Low iron stores during pregnancy
- Fatigue from iron deficiency
- Heavy menstrual blood loss
- Restless legs syndrome (with low iron)
Iron is an essential mineral your body needs to make hemoglobin and carry oxygen in the blood. Supplements are mainly useful for treating or preventing iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia, ideally after a blood test confirms you are low. Because too much iron can be harmful, take it only when needed and under the guidance of a pharmacist or doctor.
