Benazepril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Kiwi interacts with.

Clinical research suggests that consuming kiwi reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Theoretically, concomitant use of kiwi and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension when used in combination with drugs that lower blood pressure. These include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Lotensin HCT pairs two blood pressure lowering medicines: benazepril (an ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill). Kiwi gets a mention here because some research suggests eating it may modestly nudge blood pressure down on its own. The idea is that adding that small effect on top of your medication could, in theory, push your numbers a little lower than intended.

Honestly, this is a gentle, theory-based concern, not a red flag. Enjoying kiwi as a normal part of your diet is unlikely to cause trouble. If you were to notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired, those could be signs of blood pressure dipping too low. Keep eating kiwi as food if you like it, and just check with your pharmacist or doctor before relying on concentrated kiwi supplements.
