Hydrochlorothiazide, Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Kiwi interacts with.

Clinical research suggests that consuming kiwi reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Theoretically, concomitant use of kiwi and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension when used in combination with drugs that lower blood pressure. These include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

This combo pill pairs hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) with methyldopa, and both work to bring your blood pressure down. Kiwi enters the picture because some studies suggest the fruit may gently lower blood pressure on its own. So in theory, eating a lot of kiwi while on this medicine could add to its effect and push your numbers a little lower than expected.

If your pressure dips too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how kiwi behaves, not strong proof. Enjoying kiwi as a normal food is unlikely to cause trouble. If you eat it often or notice low readings, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
