Theoretically, taking Limosilactobacillus fermentum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. fermentum.
Limosilactobacillus fermentum preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. fermentum preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to know about pairing a probiotic like Limosilactobacillus fermentum with Pretomanid: this is really about protecting the probiotic, not your TB treatment. Pretomanid is an antibacterial medication, and probiotics are simply live, friendly bacteria. So taking the two at the same time can kill off a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they ever get to work, which makes the probiotic less helpful.

Good news is, this won't weaken your Pretomanid or your TB regimen. To keep your probiotic effective, a simple trick helps: space them out by at least two hours. This concern is theoretical, based on how antibiotics and live bacteria behave, but the fix is easy. Always check with your pharmacist or TB care team before adding any supplement.

About Pretomanid

What Is Pretomanid Used For?

Brand name: Pretomanid

Pretomanid Tablet is used only as part of a three-drug regimen — together with bedaquiline and linezolid — to treat adults with pulmonary (lung) tuberculosis that is resistant to multiple antibiotics, including isoniazid, rifamycins, a fluoroquinolone, and a second-line injectable TB drug. It is also used for adults whose TB is resistant to isoniazid and rifampin and who cannot tolerate or are not responding to standard TB therapy.

Pretomanid Tablets are not for drug-sensitive TB, latent (inactive) TB infection, TB outside the lungs, or TB that responds to standard treatment. They should only be used in combination with bedaquiline and linezolid — safety and effectiveness with other drug combinations have not been established.
