Lion's Mane Mushroom and Infliximab-Abda

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Infliximab-Abda

Infliximab-Abda falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Lion's Mane Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use of lion's mane mushroom might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In animal and in vitro research, lion's mane mushroom polysaccharides stimulate the immune system.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Renflexis (infliximab-abda) is a biologic that purposely calms down an overactive immune system, which is what helps with conditions like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. Lion's mane, on the other hand, contains polysaccharides that, in lab dishes and animal studies, seem to nudge the immune system to be more active. So in theory they could be pulling in opposite directions, and lion's mane might slightly blunt the medicine's job.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. This concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from people taking both together. We have no real-world reports of lion's mane causing a flare-up while on infliximab. Still, since this drug controls a serious condition, it's worth a quick word with your doctor or pharmacist before adding it.

Lion's mane is an edible mushroom that is popular as a 'nootropic' for memory, focus, and nerve health, but solid human evidence is still limited and early.
