Here's the thing about lovage and ammonium chloride: lovage acts as a mild aquaretic, meaning it nudges your kidneys to release more water. Ammonium chloride is sometimes used as a diuretic and to make urine more acidic. So the worry on file is that pairing the two could stack their water-flushing effects, which might leave you a bit dehydrated or throw off your fluid and salt balance. Think more frequent urination, lightheadedness, or feeling unusually tired.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves, not strong human studies, and a sprinkle of lovage in cooking is very different from concentrated capsules or essential oil. If you take ammonium chloride regularly, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding lovage supplements.
