Lovage + Chlorothiazide
Chlorothiazide brand name: Diuril.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
DIURETIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorothiazide
Chlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Lovage interacts with.
Some diuretics include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Chlorothiazide (Diuril) is a water pill that helps your kidneys flush out extra salt and fluid, which lowers blood pressure and eases swelling. Lovage, especially as a concentrated supplement or essential oil, acts as a mild aquaretic, meaning it nudges your body to make more urine too. So the worry is that the two are pulling in the same direction.
If you stack them, you could end up losing a bit more fluid than intended. That might show up as feeling lightheaded when you stand, extra thirst, dry mouth, or more frequent bathroom trips. Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how lovage behaves, not on solid human studies. Cooking amounts almost certainly don't matter. Before using lovage supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

About Lovage
What is Lovage?
- Digestive upset and bloating
- Mild urinary tract flushing
- Water retention (mild diuretic)
- Coughs and congestion
- Menstrual discomfort
- Culinary flavoring
Lovage is a celery-like herb traditionally used for digestion, bloating, and as a mild diuretic to flush the urinary tract. Human evidence for these uses is very limited, and while culinary amounts are generally well tolerated, concentrated supplements and the essential oil should be used cautiously. Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it.
About Chlorothiazide
What Is Chlorothiazide Used For?
Brand name: Diuril
Chlorothiazide is used to reduce fluid buildup (edema) linked to conditions such as heart failure, liver cirrhosis (hepatic cirrhosis), and certain kidney disorders — including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. It is also used when edema is caused by corticosteroid or estrogen therapy.
The oral suspension (Diuril) is additionally approved to treat high blood pressure, either on its own or alongside other blood pressure medications. The intravenous forms — including Sodium Diuril, Chlorothiazide Sodium, and Chlorothiazide injection products — are reserved for treating edema in patients who cannot take oral medication or in emergency situations; these intravenous products are not approved for high blood pressure management.
