Here's the thing to know about pairing lovage with your Capozide (captopril plus hydrochlorothiazide). Lovage has a mild "water-flushing" effect of its own, sometimes called an aquaretic action. Since your hydrochlorothiazide is already a water pill, stacking the two could, in theory, add up and pull a bit more fluid and salt out of you than expected.

In real life that might show up as feeling lightheaded or dizzy (especially standing up), more frequent urination, leg cramps, or feeling unusually thirsty or tired. I want to be straight with you, though: this concern is theoretical, based on how lovage behaves rather than reports of real harm. Cooking amounts are very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated lovage capsules or the essential oil, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone — their effects are approximately additive.

The combination tablet may be used as a starting treatment or substituted when a patient has already been stabilized on the individual ingredients separately. It is generally suitable for patients with normal kidney function; patients with impaired kidney function should only use it when other treatments haven't worked or have caused unacceptable side effects.
