In vitro, flavonoids extracted from lychee show immunostimulant effects. So far, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Gamifant (emapalumab-lzsg). It's a lab-made antibody that calms down an overactive immune system to treat HLH. The concern on file is that certain plant compounds in lychee, called flavonoids, have shown immune-stimulating activity in test-tube studies. In theory, nudging the immune system in the opposite direction could work against a medication whose whole job is to quiet that immune response.

I want to be honest about how weak this is. It's theoretical only, based on lab dishes, and nothing like this has been seen in real patients. Enjoying lychee as a fruit is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated lychee extracts are a different story and worth skipping unless your care team approves. Since HLH is serious, please run any supplement past your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Emapalumab-lzsg Injection Used For?

Brand name: Gamifant

Gamifant is used to treat primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) — a rare, life-threatening condition where the immune system becomes dangerously overactivated — in adults and children whose disease has not responded to, has come back during, or has progressed on standard HLH therapy, or who cannot tolerate it.

Gamifant is also used for HLH/macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) in adults and children with known or suspected Still's disease, including systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA), when glucocorticoids (steroid medicines) have not worked well enough, cannot be tolerated, or when MAS keeps coming back.
