In vitro, flavonoids extracted from lychee show immunostimulant effects. So far, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: lychee is mostly just a tasty, healthy fruit. The possible concern with a drug like cladribine (Mavenclad) is that, in test-tube studies, certain flavonoids from lychee seemed to give the immune system a little nudge to be more active. Since cladribine works by quieting down parts of your immune system to calm MS activity, anything that revs the immune system back up could, in theory, work against it.

I want to be honest with you though: this is purely a lab-dish idea. It has never been seen to actually happen in people, and it's rated as minor. Enjoy lychee as a normal food without worry. The one thing I'd steer clear of is loading up on concentrated lychee extract supplements while on cladribine. If you're thinking about those, just run it by your pharmacist or neurologist first.

About Cladribine

What Is Cladribine Used For?

Brand names: Leustatin, Mavenclad

Cladribine tablets (brand name Mavenclad) are used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults — specifically relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Because of its significant safety profile, it is generally reserved for patients who haven't responded well to, or can't tolerate, other MS medicines. It is not recommended for clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a first episode that may or may not lead to MS.

Cladribine injection (given intravenously) is a separate product used to treat active hairy cell leukemia — a rare blood cancer — in patients who have clinically significant anemia, low white blood cell counts, low platelets, or disease-related symptoms.
