Insulin Glulisine (rDNA) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Lychee interacts with.

Theoretically, lychee seed might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that an aqueous extract of lychee seed reduces fasting and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose and improves impaired glucose tolerance in rats with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, retrospective research in children has found an association between lychee consumption and increased odds of acute hypoglycemic encephalopathy.

Here's the gist: Apidra (insulin glulisine) already lowers your blood sugar, and concentrated lychee seed extract may nudge it down a little further. Stack the two and you could be at higher risk for a low (hypoglycemia), with symptoms like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.

I'll be straight with you though, this concern is theoretical. It comes from animal studies and some reports in undernourished children eating large amounts of unripe lychee, not from people using lychee supplements with insulin. Enjoying the fruit as food is very unlikely to be a problem. If you're considering a lychee seed extract, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep monitoring your sugars as usual.

Apidra and Apidra SoloStar are used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adult and pediatric patients with diabetes mellitus. This includes both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Because insulin glulisine works very quickly, it is typically used around mealtimes to control the rise in blood sugar that happens after eating. It is generally used alongside a longer-acting insulin as part of a complete diabetes regimen.
