Magnesium + Clopidogrel
Clopidogrel brand name: Plavix.
Magnesium has a minor interaction with Clopidogrel. Theoretically, magnesium may have antiplatelet effects, but the evidence is conflicting.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Clopidogrel
Clopidogrel falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Magnesium interacts with.
In vitro evidence shows that magnesium sulfate inhibits platelet aggregation, even at low concentrations. Some preliminary clinical evidence shows that infusion of magnesium sulfate increases bleeding time by 48% and reduces platelet activity. However, other clinical research shows that magnesium does not affect platelet aggregation, although inhibition of platelet-dependent thrombosis can occur.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist if you take Plavix (clopidogrel) and want to add magnesium. Plavix already works by keeping your platelets from clumping, which is exactly what protects your stents and arteries. There's some lab and early research suggesting magnesium might also have a mild blood-thinning, anti-platelet effect of its own. In theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk up a little, so you'd watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that are slow to stop.
That said, the evidence here is weak and conflicting, and this is rated as a minor and unlikely interaction. Everyday magnesium from food or a normal supplement dose is very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting magnesium so they can give you the okay for your situation.

About Magnesium
What is Magnesium?
- Preventing or treating magnesium deficiency
- Constipation
- Muscle cramps
- Sleep support
- Anxiety and stress
- Migraine prevention
Magnesium is an essential mineral your body needs for muscles, nerves, blood pressure, and many other functions, and supplements are useful for preventing or correcting deficiency. Some other uses, like easing constipation or preventing migraines, have reasonable support, while uses for sleep and anxiety are less proven. It is generally safe for most healthy people at recommended amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you have kidney problems.
About Clopidogrel
What Is Clopidogrel Used For?
Brand name: Plavix
Clopidogrel is used to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in people whose arteries are already affected by disease.
Its supported uses are acute coronary syndrome (including unstable angina, non-ST-elevation heart attack and ST-elevation heart attack), a recent heart attack, a recent stroke, and established peripheral arterial disease (narrowed arteries, usually in the legs). For acute coronary syndrome, some product labels say it should be used together with aspirin.
