ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Treprostinil
Treprostinil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Maitake Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for treprostinil (Orenitram): it's a drug for pulmonary arterial hypertension that widens blood vessels, and one of its known effects is lowering blood pressure, which can leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, flushed, or headachy. Maitake mushroom may also nudge blood pressure down a bit. So in theory, taking them together could add up and make low blood pressure more likely.
I want to be honest about the strength here: this is a theoretical concern based mainly on animal studies, not strong human data. Eating maitake as food is unlikely to cause trouble, but concentrated supplement doses are a different story. Before adding a maitake supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your blood pressure.

About Maitake Mushroom
What is Maitake Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- General wellness and antioxidant support
Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
About Treprostinil
What Is Treprostinil Used For?
Treprostinil treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Depending on the product and route, it is used to improve exercise ability, delay disease progression, or reduce symptoms tied to physical activity. Remodulin and treprostinil injection products are also indicated for patients who need to transition away from another PAH medicine called epoprostenol.
Tyvaso, Tyvaso DPI, and Yutrepia (inhaled forms) are additionally approved to treat pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3) — lung-pressure problems caused by scarring or inflammation in the lung tissue itself. Orenitram (extended-release oral tablet) is specifically indicated to delay disease progression and improve exercise capacity in PAH.
