Here's the simple version: motherwort has been reported to cause its own mild calming, drowsy effect. Depakote (divalproex sodium) can already make some people feel sleepy, foggy, or a little unsteady. Put the two together and that sedation could stack up, leaving you more tired or slowed down than usual. This isn't about motherwort changing your Depakote blood levels, it's just two things that both nudge you toward drowsiness.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on how these substances behave, not on solid human studies. So it's not a reason to panic. Still, if you take Depakote for seizures, bipolar disorder, or migraines, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding motherwort, especially since you'd want to watch for extra drowsiness early on.

Specifically, they are approved for complex partial seizures (either alone or with other seizure types) as monotherapy or add-on therapy, and for simple and complex absence seizures as sole therapy or add-on therapy.
