Treprostinil (Inh) falls under Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs — the group Mullein interacts with.

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.

Here's the situation with inhaled treprostinil (Tyvaso) and mullein. Beyond opening up blood vessels in the lungs, treprostinil also makes your platelets a little less sticky, which mildly reduces clotting. Mullein has been shown in test-tube studies to have its own gentle blood-thinning action, likely from plant compounds called triterpenoid saponins. Stacked together, there's a theoretical chance of slightly more bruising or bleeding.

The good news is this is rated a minor and unlikely concern. The lab results were mild and inconsistent, and we don't have real-world reports of problems. Still, if you notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, or if you take other blood thinners, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Treprostinil Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Tyvaso

Treprostinil oral inhalation is used to treat two serious lung conditions that raise pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs. It helps improve how much physical activity you can do.

Tyvaso inhalation solution and Tyvaso DPI are both indicated to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3). Clinical studies establishing effectiveness in PAH primarily included patients with moderate symptoms (NYHA Class III) whose PAH was idiopathic, heritable, or related to connective tissue disease. Studies in PH-ILD primarily included patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema, or connective tissue disease-related lung disease.
