Treprostinil (Inh) falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Danshen has been reported to have antithrombotic effects. Animal research also suggests that taking a danshen combination formula with clopidogrel exhibits a synergistic increase in antiplatelet aggregation and prolongation of coagulation time when compared with either taken alone.

Here's the thing worth knowing if you take inhaled treprostinil (Tyvaso) for your pulmonary hypertension: besides relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, this medicine also makes your platelets less likely to clump together. In other words, it has a mild blood-thinning side to it. Danshen can act the same way, so stacking the two could nudge you toward easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that takes longer to stop.

To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on animal studies and scattered reports, not strong human data, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since bleeding is a serious matter, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Danshen. Don't change how you use your Tyvaso on your own.

Animal research suggests that danshen can produce dose-dependent hypotensive effects. Furthermore, concomitant use with captopril appears to potentiate this effect.

Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're using inhaled treprostinil (Tyvaso) for pulmonary hypertension: this medicine works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which naturally can lower your blood pressure. Danshen has shown its own blood-pressure-lowering effect in lab and animal studies, so stacking the two together could theoretically add up. You might notice more dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when standing up), flushing, or a headache.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This concern comes from animal research, not human studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Danshen may also thin the blood a bit, which is worth mentioning too. Please don't stop or change your treprostinil on your own. Just loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding Danshen so they can keep an eye on things.

What Is Treprostinil Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand name: Tyvaso

Treprostinil oral inhalation is used to treat two serious lung conditions that raise pressure in the blood vessels of the lungs. It helps improve how much physical activity you can do.

Tyvaso inhalation solution and Tyvaso DPI are both indicated to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3). Clinical studies establishing effectiveness in PAH primarily included patients with moderate symptoms (NYHA Class III) whose PAH was idiopathic, heritable, or related to connective tissue disease. Studies in PH-ILD primarily included patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema, or connective tissue disease-related lung disease.
