Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the idea behind this one. Atgam (lymphocyte immune globulin) is a strong medicine given by IV, usually to calm down or knock back your immune system, for example to prevent or treat organ transplant rejection or to treat certain types of bone marrow failure. The whole point is to dampen immune activity.

Neem, on the other hand, has shown immune-boosting effects in lab and animal studies. So in theory, neem could push your immune system in the opposite direction and make Atgam work less well, which could mean a higher chance of rejection or a weaker response to treatment. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based only on early lab and animal research, not real patient studies. Since Atgam is serious therapy, please don't take neem alongside it without first checking with your transplant team or doctor.

About Neem

What is Neem?

Neem
  • Skin conditions
  • Dental and gum health
  • Antimicrobial and antiparasitic
  • Digestive upset
  • Blood sugar support
  • Insect repellent/pesticide

Neem is a tree from India used for centuries in traditional medicine, especially for skin, dental, and antimicrobial purposes. Some small studies are promising for oral health and skin, but high-quality human evidence is limited for most uses. Neem oil and seed extracts can be toxic if swallowed, especially in children, so use with caution and talk to your pharmacist or doctor first.
