Polypodium Leucotomos + Cefotaxime
Cefotaxime brand name: Claforan.
We found no known interaction between Polypodium Leucotomos and Cefotaxime in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Polypodium Leucotomos and Cefotaxime
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Cefotaxime and Polypodium Leucotomos in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cefotaxime
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cefotaxime is filed under 7 classifications — including organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, organic anion transporter 1 (oat1) substrates, antibiotic drugs. Polypodium Leucotomos has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates (minor) — and none of Cefotaxime’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Polypodium Leucotomos Does Interact With Other Medications
Polypodium Leucotomos has 643 minor known drug interactions in our database — Cefotaxime isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Cefotaxime
This page covers Polypodium Leucotomos only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Cefotaxime page lists 45 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Asarabacca (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), African Wild Potato (moderate), Aristolochia (moderate) and Bacillus Coagulans (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 39 moderate · 4 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cefotaxime page
“The two entries worth understanding first on this cefotaxime (Claforan) list are Siberian cocklebur and asarabacca. Both can damage the kidneys on their own, and stacking that on an injectable antibiotic often given to people who are already quite sick is a risk I would not take lightly.”

About Polypodium Leucotomos
What is Polypodium Leucotomos?
- Sun sensitivity and sunburn protection
- Skin conditions like vitiligo and melasma
- Polymorphic light eruption
- Skin aging and photoaging
- Atopic dermatitis support
Polypodium leucotomos is a fern extract taken by mouth, mostly studied as an add-on to (not a replacement for) sunscreen and for certain light-triggered skin conditions. Some early research is promising for reducing sun sensitivity, but the evidence is still limited and it should not replace standard sun protection. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

About Cefotaxime Injection
What Is Cefotaxime Injection Used For?
Brand name: Claforan
Cefotaxime Injection is used to treat serious bacterial infections in many parts of the body — including the lungs, urinary tract, skin, bones and joints, abdomen, reproductive organs, and central nervous system (such as meningitis). It also treats bloodstream infections (septicemia) and certain sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhea.
It is also given before certain surgeries — such as abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy, gastrointestinal surgery, and cesarean section — to reduce the risk of postoperative infection. Because cefotaxime has no activity against Chlamydia trachomatis, an additional antibiotic must be added when that organism is a suspected cause of pelvic inflammatory disease.

Cefotaxime Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Cefotaxime as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Polypodium Leucotomos — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
