Prednisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Polypodium Leucotomos interacts with.

Theoretically, Polypodium leucotomos might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Polypodium leucotomos can decrease the metabolism of midazolam by a mechanism possibly related to the inhibition of CYP3A4. However, a small study in humans suggests that taking Polypodium leucotomos with midazolam does not affect the metabolism of midazolam.

Here's the short version: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear prednisone. In the lab, Polypodium leucotomos looked like it could slow that enzyme down a little, which in theory might let prednisone build up slightly and nudge up steroid effects like trouble sleeping, mood swings, a bigger appetite, fluid retention, or higher blood sugar.

The reassuring part is that this is mostly test tube and animal data. When researchers actually tested a similar drug in real people, they saw no meaningful change. So for most folks taking this fern extract alongside prednisone, a real problem is unlikely. Still, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you notice new side effects, before starting or stopping anything.
