Quetiapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Polypodium Leucotomos interacts with.

Theoretically, Polypodium leucotomos might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Polypodium leucotomos can decrease the metabolism of midazolam by a mechanism possibly related to the inhibition of CYP3A4. However, a small study in humans suggests that taking Polypodium leucotomos with midazolam does not affect the metabolism of midazolam.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down quetiapine. There's a theory that Polypodium leucotomos might slow that enzyme down a little. If that happened, quetiapine could build up slightly, which in theory might mean more of its usual effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up.

The good news is the evidence here is weak and mostly comes from lab and animal work. When researchers actually tested this in people (using a similar drug), they didn't see a real change. So this is rated minor and unlikely. Still, since quetiapine already causes sedation, mention this combo to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you notice extra grogginess.

What Is Quetiapine Used For?

Brand names: Seroquel, Dopaquel

Quetiapine treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents. For bipolar disorder, it is approved for manic episodes (both as a stand-alone treatment and alongside lithium or divalproex) and for depressive episodes.

The extended-release form of quetiapine is also approved as add-on therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults who are already taking an antidepressant. The regular tablet form is not approved for this use.
