Here's the simple version. Your body uses pregnenolone as a starting material to make other hormones, and one of those is progesterone, the natural cousin of the progestin (drospirenone) in your Slynd. So in theory, adding a pregnenolone supplement could nudge your overall progestin-type hormone activity a little higher. If that happened, you might notice more of the usual progestin side effects, like spotting or breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, bloating, mood changes, or headaches.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one: it's purely theoretical, based on how these hormones are built, not on real studies in people. We don't have proof it actually causes problems. Still, since both are hormones, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your birth control on your own.

  • Progestin-only (drospirenone) oral contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy. Progestin is a female hormone. It works by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation) and changing the cervical mucus and the lining of the uterus. Progestin-only oral contraceptives are a very effective method of birth control, but they do not prevent the spread of of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [AIDS]) and other sexually transmitted diseases.
