Annovera is a vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone acetate (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen), to prevent pregnancy. Here's the idea behind this interaction: pregnenolone is a hormone your body can convert into other steroid hormones, including estrogens. So in theory, adding it on top of the estrogen you're already getting from the ring could nudge your total estrogen activity a little higher.

I want to be clear that this is theoretical, based on how these hormones work rather than on real studies in people taking them together. If anything did happen, you might notice more of the usual estrogen-related effects, like breast tenderness, nausea, bloating, or mood changes. Since pregnenolone is itself a hormone, it's worth running it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Here's the thinking behind this one. Your Annovera ring contains a progestin (segesterone) plus estrogen. Since pregnenolone is a natural building block your body can turn into progestin-type hormones, the concern is that adding it on top might gently nudge up your overall progestin activity. In theory, that could mean more of the usual progestin-related side effects, like bloating, breast tenderness, mood changes, or spotting.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical idea based on how these hormones are made, not on real-world studies showing problems. It's a moderate, just-in-case caution. Because we're stacking hormones, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting pregnenolone, rather than something to panic about.
