In vitro, purple nut sedge inhibits platelet aggregation. Theoretically, purple nut sedge might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the situation with abciximab (ReoPro). This is a powerful clot-blocking medicine given right in the hospital through an IV, usually during heart procedures like angioplasty or stenting. Its whole job is to keep platelets from sticking together so clots don't form.

Now, in test-tube studies, purple nut sedge also appears to slow platelets down a little. So in theory, stacking it on top of abciximab could nudge your bleeding risk higher, meaning easier bruising, bleeding at the catheter site, or nosebleeds. Honestly though, this is a hospital-only IV drug, and the evidence here is just lab data, not real patient studies, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, always tell your care team about every supplement you take so they can keep an eye on you.
