ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Semaglutide
Semaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Purple Nut Sedge interacts with.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) and purple nut sedge: in animal studies, this herb appeared to lower blood sugar on its own. Since semaglutide already works to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two together could, in theory, push it down too far. That's the concern here, the possibility of additive blood-sugar lowering.
I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical worry based mostly on animal research, not strong human studies, so I wouldn't panic. Still, watch for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling confused, especially if you're also on insulin or a sulfonylurea. Before adding this supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can help you keep an eye on your numbers.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page
“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”
