In vitro, purple nut sedge inhibits platelet aggregation. Theoretically, purple nut sedge might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the simple version: Lepirudin (Refludan) is a strong injectable blood thinner that works by directly blocking thrombin, a key player in clotting. It's given in hospitals to people who can't use heparin. On its own, it already raises your bleeding risk.

In lab dishes, purple nut sedge appears to slow platelets, the tiny cells that help your blood form clots. So in theory, stacking it on top of lepirudin could nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher, think easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding. I want to be honest, though: this is only test-tube data, not proven in people. Since lepirudin is a closely monitored hospital medicine, never add this supplement without telling your care team first.
